Openings, benefits, industry evenings — the season where people actually dress. Time for a floor-length or a strong column silhouette.
December
Party season
Office parties, family dinners, New Year. Velvet and heavier satin earn their place — and so does a dress you can sit down in for three hours.
November — March
Toronto winter
The walk from car to door is short but cold. Fleece-lined opaque tights are invisible and change the arithmetic; a long coat over a short dress looks intentional. Carrying heels in boots is standard practice here.

Getting the size right the first time
There is no fitting room here, so measurements do the work. It takes ten minutes and saves a return.
For corset and bustier styles the deciding measurement is underbust, not bust — a boned bodice has almost no give and has to sit correctly vertically as well.
Still unsure? Send your measurements and the dress you are considering to info@the-clipse.com — we answer with an honest recommendation, including when the answer is that neither size will work.
- Measure over bare skin or thin underwear, wearing the bra you plan to wear with the dress — a padded bra moves the bust measurement by several centimetres.
- Take four numbers: bust, underbust, waist and hips. Keep the tape level all the way round; the most common mistake is letting it ride up at the back.
- Match them to the size chart, which maps our sizes to US, UK and EU equivalents. The measuring guide walks through each number.
- Between two sizes, size up on anything structured. A seam can be taken in; fabric cannot be added.

How each cloth behaves
Satin
Catches light and photographs beautifully after dark, but shows every crease. Steam it — never iron.
Velvet
Warm, forgiving and firmly autumn–winter. The right answer for December in Toronto.
Matte crepe
Reads expensive in any light. Choose it when the dress has to work at an afternoon ceremony and an evening reception both.

Frequently asked
How long does delivery to Toronto take?
Two to four business days by tracked courier after dispatch. Orders are processed Monday to Friday, so an order placed on Friday evening leaves on Monday.
Is there a duty or customs charge?
No. Orders ship from our Calgary warehouse and stay inside Canada, so nothing goes through customs and no brokerage fee applies — unlike the British and Australian labels most Toronto shoppers end up comparing us with.
How much is shipping?
Free on orders over $250, flat $21 below that. The exact amount is shown at checkout before you pay.
Can I try the dress on before buying?
What if my size is sold out?
Choose the size on the product page and use Notify me when available. You will get an email the moment it is back in stock — we use that list to decide what to restock first.
Do you deliver to Mississauga, Brampton or Markham?
Yes, on the same terms as central Toronto — same timeframe, same free-over-$250 threshold. The same goes for Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Oakville and Pickering.
What happens if it doesn’t fit?
Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery for a refund, or within 30 days for store credit. Items must be unworn, with tags attached and in original packaging. Email us with your order number and we reply with instructions — please don’t send anything back before that, as unannounced returns can go astray. Refunds reach the original payment method within 5–10 business days of the parcel arriving with us. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless the item arrived faulty or incorrect, in which case we cover it.
